Damascus-SANA

After trying to write in several genres of story, novel and metered poetry, the poet Eman Moussalli settled on writing the prose poem because she found it to have a wide space for the word and it deals with topics in simple vocabulary and reaches the reader easily.

Moussalli warns of the danger of writing a prose poem at ease, because in light of its not using the elements of music and meter, it must be filled with innovative and surprising images and an emotional burst that unites the poem and serves its idea as it needs the element of surprise and the creation of new phenomena that do not depend on old standards and care about the image and meaning without resorting to blurring.

In an interview with Sana, Moussalli says: I have no specific time for writing, for it is a burst of inspiration that comes at any moment, and inspiration can be a human stance that beats the pulse of the pen so that the poet writes with his heart and his letter is his mouthpiece, and sometimes he evokes a memory spectrum or even a living painting that passes in our daily life and seizes Its details to generate poetry in a language close to people and elevate the taste.

Moussalli supports any literary genre that carries a creative value, but she sees that the successful poet respects all forms of poetry and tries all schools to find a specific style in which to create and add new ones without denying the poetic heritage as the suitable soil for talent growth.

Creativity is manifested in writing poetry, as Moussalli finds, in the elevation of the simple language to the poetic value, with understandable vocabulary that carries contradiction sometimes and surprise at other times, in an innovative manner that transforms the ordinary into the heterogeneous, within high narration techniques and an internal monologue characterized by difference and diversity, and a literary and poetic culture that indicates the poet’s personality and reveals his concerns.

Regarding the role of literary criticism in encouraging and nurturing the current literary production, she considers that the task of criticism is not only to highlight the positive points, but rather its importance lies in illuminating and correcting the negatives in order to elevate poetry and reach the level of creativity.

Moussalli says: I do not call praise that is pure criticism, but rather it is just a personal opinion that has other aims. For praise only.”

Moussalli invites those with real poetic talent to be present in cultural pulpits to present a true picture of the level of poetry in our country instead of what is currently being presented and in many of it does not reflect the brightness of the Syrian poem in the time of war.

It is noteworthy that the poet Moussalli holds a BA in English literature, issued her “My Forgiven Heart” and “Crystal” and won the Literary Creativity Award in 2019.
