Traffic light is intended to defuse the danger zone in Ampermoching

The intersection of Dachauer- / Haimhauser Straße with the staggered confluence of Bamergasse in the middle of Ampermoching has long been known as a hazard (we reported).

The situation is particularly critical for the 160 girls and boys who have to cross one or more lanes every day on their way to the school bus stop.

However, because the state and district roads intersect here, Hebertshausen cannot take action itself, rather the state and the district are responsible for improvements.

Intensive efforts by the community are now getting things moving: The Accident Commission has carried out an inspection and has warned that action is required.

In addition, an agreement had been reached with the responsible road construction authorities, said Mayor Richard Reischl (CSU) in the local council.

"We pay for the traffic investigation, the state and district then pay for the renovation."

The results of this traffic study are already available, and expert Tobias Kölbl from the Gevas Tourist Office has now explained them to the municipal councils.

The conclusion: "The capacity of the traffic junction is currently insufficient, and the situation for pedestrians is anything but ideal."

In the long term, the intersection should be converted into a “fully signaled intersection”.

A roundabout, on the other hand, would require an enormous amount of space and could not be integrated into the existing development, according to expert Kölbl.

The intersection is very busy during rush hour traffic, the traffic count showed over 1000 vehicles in the so-called “peak hour”, ie the morning and evening rush hour traffic.

The situation is particularly critical because many vehicles from both directions turn into Haimhauser Strasse - a secret route to Bundesstrasse 471 - and from there turn left into Dachauer Strasse. In addition, according to the traffic specialist, the long curve at the level of the bakery is being “driven too fast”. The road narrows towards the north, "there is poor visibility there". And in Haimhauser Strasse, the sidewalk in parts resembles a narrow ford.

In this situation, numerous school children have to find their way to the bus every day, as do parents who take their boys and girls to the day care center on Bamergasse on foot or by bike.

The existing pedestrian traffic light, the only secured crossing in the whole of Ampermoching, is north of the intersection and therefore, for many, on the wrong side.

“That's why many people cross Dachauer Strasse, it's easier,” says the expert.

The local councils didn't have to be convinced.

"That is one of the most difficult points in the community," confirmed Martin Gasteiger (FBB).

In the long term, he said yes to the reconstruction of the intersection, but "I don't agree with the provisional traffic light, it hardly reaches people," said Florian Zigldrum (CSU).

Expert Kölbl replied that if there is no offer, there is no crossing.

A traffic light on Haimhauser Strasse would make more sense, said Stefan Götz (CSU).

Kölbl wants to check that, but there is no space for waiting pedestrians, he pointed out.

Now the study will soon be presented to the state building authority and the district.

Then it is time to decide on the next steps.
