“The construction effort is far too great”: the local council disagreed over the purchase of ventilation systems for the kindergartens

elementary and middle school is to be equipped with decentralized ventilation systems.

The market councils agreed on this.

However, at the latest meeting of the market council, opinions differed as to whether such fresh air systems should also be procured for the two kindergartens.

18 classrooms in the elementary and middle school are already equipped with ventilation systems, and a further 13 rooms are to follow. At its meeting on August 11th, the school association spoke out against CO2 warning devices and air filter systems and instead favored decentralized ventilation devices. The advantages, as Peter Beck from the planning office of the same name explained back then and also on Thursday, are obvious: there is an exchange of fresh air, the devices are significantly quieter and the filters can be changed "without special requirements", he explained some advantages. Disadvantages, however, are the “high installation effort” and the costs: such a device costs between 26,000 and 29,000 euros per classroom - plus maintenance costs. The good news: The purchase is subsidized with 80 percent.

A grant application for a total of around 353,000 euros has already been submitted for the devices - and one of around 282,000 euros has also been approved, reported Mayor Gerhard Betz. “Why do we have to deal with that then?” Asked 3rd Mayor Michael Schranner (BLN), a little puzzled. Betz gave two reasons. "I wanted to inform you," he said. And Sebastian Unger added: “If we pay that, we should know what is being bought.” In addition, according to Betz, the information also serves as a basis for discussions about whether such devices should also be procured for kindergartens.

And that's exactly where opinions differed. Expert Beck had a picture on site and came to the conclusion: "The structural effort is far too great to install the devices." In addition, the devices are large - and the space in the kindergartens is cramped. That is why he advised against using the devices, especially since the children - unlike in schools - are often in the garden and are therefore sufficiently out in the fresh air.

Alexander Mörwald (UWN) did not want to accept these arguments and said that such systems are “just as important in kindergartens as they are in school”. Because: “You don't get the same effect with window systems as with ventilation systems.” Therefore, his demand was: “I would try to find a way to install these systems.” Erhard Schönegge (Greens) also saw it this way: It couldn't be that you first “emphasize the great advantages and then don't do that in kindergartens”. Therefore "it would be stupid if we do not seize this opportunity".

Andreas Selmayer (CSU) was basically in favor of “the best air in kindergartens”, but one should not “fall into blind actionism because there is 80 percent subsidy”.

Patrick Nocker (UWN) is convinced that the systems “are not necessary as protection against viruses”.

Mörwald is also aware of this, but wants to "improve the quality of the air" through the systems.

For Michael Schranner, it is “very important to involve the kindergarten directors” and, Mörwald added, “to explain the benefits and functions in detail” at a meeting.

While the municipal council approved the procurement of ventilation systems in the school, it was decided in the case of the kindergartens to meet with the leaders at which the equipment was explained to the managers and possible locations could be determined.

The results are presented again to the local council - and then a decision is made.

“It was a tough birth,” said Betz after the hour-long discussion.
