Oberallgäu - landscape conservation associations for the Oberallgäu celebrate their 25th anniversary.

Oberallgäu - landscape conservation associations for the Oberallgäu celebrate their 25th anniversary.

Together with the "inventors" who discovered the idea of the landscape conservation associations for the Oberallgäu in the mid-1990s and made it a permanent establishment, today's players and the association's leadership celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Oberallgäu-Kempten landscape conservation association.

A success story, as a look at the number of projects and the financial resources used shows.

The "idea" came from Ernst Wirthensohn, who at the time was head of a "cultural landscape office" and who had become acquainted with the "tool" of landscape conservation at an event.

The then Oberallgäu district administrator Gebhard Kaiser was enthusiastic: "We'll do that."

Landscape maintenance "sometimes more, sometimes less successful"

And Kaiser, now a retired district administrator, is still enthusiastic that the landscape conservation projects have succeeded in reconciling agriculture and nature conservation.

“Sometimes more and sometimes less successful.” It was a particular concern of his to get the city of Kempten with its special purpose association for recreation areas Kempten and Oberallgäu on board in order to achieve nationwide action in the district.

The work of the landscape maintenance teams began in the Bergstätt area near Immenstadt and Missen.

Initially, measures to combat bracken were introduced there in order to reclaim mountain pastures for agricultural use.

This was followed by de-bushing actions, for example at the Oberstdorfer Moorweiher, extensive maintenance work on poor grasslands or spring-land renaturation and work on rewetting moor areas such as the Strausbergmoos near Sonthofen.

Cooperation with Allgäuer Moorallianz

A look at the positive development in the past 25 years shows the longstanding former chairman Herbert Seger, the success of the landscape conservation association. The work was extended to almost all rural districts between Altusried and Oberstdorf and, where possible, linked to the state nature conservation agreement. If you worked with 100,000 euros in the beginning, sales are now approaching the million mark, not least due to the cooperation with the Allgäu Moor Alliance.

“We work in 70 sets and on more than 200 hectares.

Around 4 million euros in funding flowed into the region, ”Seger sums up proudly.

“Money that has been paid out to our farmers.

Money that stays here. "And without the cooperation of committed farmers, not much could be achieved anyway:" A great group that achieves a lot. "

Award for Karl Tannheimer

There are currently 139 active farmers in their local teams working on various projects.

“We would not have done anything without our landscape maintenance team!” Emphasizes the managing director Leonie Schaefer.

“They are the landscape conservation professionals.” One of these professional troops, Karl Tannheimer from Buchenberg, was honored for his 25 years of service - and for a time as deputy chairman of the association.

"We at the Landscape Management Association are proud to contribute to the preservation of nature and its jewels."
