Do I need an election notification in order to be able to vote in the federal election in 2021?

Berlin - Germany will elect a new Bundestag on September 26th.
In order to be able to participate in the federal election, one must be entered in the electoral roll.
This is usually automatic if you are resident in Germany and are of legal age.
As a rule, all eligible voters receive their voting notification from their municipalities four to six weeks before the election.
Every voter should have received such a notification no later than three weeks before the 2021 federal election, i.e. no later than September 5.

Notification of the election for the 2021 federal election: information on time and place
The voting notification entitles one to participate in the federal election. It is, so to speak, an invitation to vote. The notification also contains a lot of other important information. On the one hand, you can find information about the time of the election. That will be September 26, 2021 for the federal election. The polling stations are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On the other hand, there is information on the voting location on the notification.
Those entitled to vote will be informed exactly in which polling station they are allowed to fill out the ballot for the Bundestag election and to throw it into the ballot box.
The polling station listed there can only be changed with a previous application.
The reason can be, for example, that you need a barrier-free polling station.
The same applies if you decide to vote by postal vote.

What to do if the voting notification for the 2021 federal election does not arrive?
All eligible voters should have received their notification from the municipalities by September 5, 2021.
If this is not the case, the Federal Returning Officer recommends contacting the respective municipality and clarifying whether you have been properly entered in the electoral roll.
From September 6th to 10th you have the opportunity to inspect the electoral roll of the municipality before the election and to check the correctness and completeness of your own data.
If necessary, you can file an objection during this time if the information appears incorrect or incomplete.
It can of course also happen that the voting notification was lost when it was delivered by the post office.
In any case, you should contact your community as soon as possible so that the matter can be clarified in good time before the election.
What if I lost the voting notification before the 2021 federal election?
Even if it is stated on the voting notification that you have to bring it with you to vote, this is not absolutely necessary in order to be able to vote.
However, you should remember which polling station you have been assigned.
Participation in the election is also possible if you have lost the voting notification.
As long as you have received this at some point, you are listed in the electoral roll of an electoral district.
However, at the polling station you must be able to identify yourself with a valid identity card or passport.
