Dortmund - With an area of 280.7 km² (and around 688,200 inhabitants), the city on the Ruhr is one of the largest municipalities in Germany.
The airport, main train station and canal port make the city an important hub for the transport of people and goods in Europe.
In 2017, 414,610 people were called for the federal election.
In the constituency of Dortmund I, 73.9% and in Dortmund II 70.7% of those eligible to vote cast their votes.
In the two constituencies, an average of 382.6 people per 1,000 inhabitants work in jobs that are subject to social security contributions.
As a result of the structural change, jobs in the former mining domain have shifted to the areas of trade and services as well as high-tech and energy over the past few decades.
At 12.1%, the unemployment rate is high compared to the national average.
