Wahl-O-Mat Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Current state parliament (after the 2016 election)
The SPD has been the strongest force in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since the turn of the millennium and has been the prime minister since then.
Manuela Schwesig is currently the first female Prime Minister to hold office after party comrade Erwin Sellering resigned in May 2017 for health reasons.
But her successor also fell seriously ill, and last year she won the battle against cancer.
In 2016, the Social Democrats were elected with just over 30 percent in the last state elections, while the AfD received over 20 percent of the votes when it first participated and came in second in the electorate.
The CDU, the Left and the Greens had to pay tribute to this development with losses, for the latter and the FDP it was not enough to move into parliament.
