After severe storms on Mallorca, there are extraordinary pictures of the coastline of the Spanish holiday island.
It is a result of the storm.
Mallorca - After the heavy storms in the Balearic Islands, there is an extraordinary natural phenomenon to be seen on Mallorca.
Recordings of stretches of coast of the vacation island popular with Germans are circulating on social networks.
This is the result of a chain reaction: floods caused by heavy rain have led to massive soil erosion, which in some places reached the sea through rivers.
The
Mallorca Zeitung explains
that there are actually no rivers on the Balearic Islands, but instead torrentes called torrent streams.
These would only fill up when it rains, which can happen "quickly and violently" with extreme amounts of water.
Mallorca: A chain reaction follows storms with floods
As a result, the sea water on Mallorca's coasts and those of neighboring islands turned brown because silt came from the land into the sea.
What makes it appear as if it were a carpet of sewage is therefore fertile soil that has entered the Mediterranean, the paper continues.
When taking pictures from the southern regions of the island, it can be seen that the conditions for swimming trips there do not seem too good.
The discolored brown water in front of the bays of the Mondragó nature reserve is particularly impressive.
The forest protection network Xarxa Forestal has published amazing aerial photos:

Balearic storms: Mallorca and Co. with brown water off the coast
The fascinating phenomenon can be observed on several Balearic Islands, pictures have also been published from Mallorca's neighboring island of Menorca, which compare a bay in the before and after state:

Del azul marino, al rojo calizo!
Impressionant, ahir.

However, conservationists are not enthusiastic about the flooded sediments, rather they see one of the most serious consequences after the storm in the Balearic region.
Meanwhile, there has recently been positive news for Mallorca tourists who are keen to celebrate.
In 2020, two tornadoes formed on Mallorca and headed for the coast of the holiday island, resulting in severe storms, which resulted in dramatic videos circulating on the Internet.
