Wellenfreibad Peiting is without a lifeguard - and there is another problem

The Peitinger Wellenfreibad does not look back on a glorious season - and the next small disaster is about to begin: All three lifeguards have thrown in the towel.

On top of it comes a new burst pipe.

Peiting - The next bad news for the outdoor swimming pool in Peiting: One after the other, all three pool attendants terminated their employment with the municipality of Peiting.

The administration now has to conjure up a replacement for the season in the coming year.

Head of the office, Stefan Kort, is calm.

“Sure, it's not that easy to find people at the moment.” Nevertheless, he assumes that enough lifeguards will be found by the coming season.

"Some baths are closed, maybe someone from there is happy to be able to move to the Peiting community." Kort assumes that three lifeguards will be needed again.

"In the past we did handle two." In the event of illness, however, the company could hardly be shouldered.

Finding new staff is not going to be easy

Whether it is true that there should have been trouble - among other things because of the matter with the sharp-edged tiles that led to the closure of the bathroom (we reported): Kort does not want to comment on this.

And Mayor Peter Ostenrieder does not want to say anything about it either.

However, he admits that it will not be easy to fill all three positions.

The job advertisement should go out soon.

“If that fits into that person's life model, then it's a great job.” Next year you want to start with a completely new team.

“This is now a clear cut,” he says of the personnel situation.

Broken pipe already found

The building yard is currently busy wintering the wave pool, and the heating is being brought up to date. In addition, the excavator has to roll into motion: there is another leak. Market builder Fabian Kreitl: “We are right now.” The leak is near the technology cellar in the direction of the swimmers' pool. Small consolation: at least the leak can be repaired without an excavator using so-called "inliners". The costs are therefore not horrendously high. The damage is not surprising, so Kreitl. After all, “most of the pipes are as old as the bathroom”.

If you do a cash fall, things are not looking very rosy this year when it comes to outdoor swimming pools. A forced break due to broken tiles and bad weather have reduced the income from ticket sales by two thirds: instead of 75,000 euros, only 25,000 euros flowed into the till. In addition, there is the repair work on the tiles, which is estimated at 25,000 to 30,000 euros in terms of costs. Without taking into account the investment in the new heating, the deficit for the bathroom is at least 50,000 euros higher than in previous years - it amounts to around 250,000 euros, which the municipality will have to add to the budget in 2021.
