With simple capabilities and a design mixed with determination and determination to translate the ideas he believes in, the craftsman Abdel Moeen Al-Jajah, from the city of Hama, was able, after months of effort and fatigue, to design an electric wheelchair to help the elderly, war-wounded and people with disabilities.

The chair, according to the craftsman, “Al-Jaja,” will help large segments of the wounded in the Syrian Arab Army with total and partial disabilities, the elderly, and people with disabilities in their daily movements. Electric chairs because of their high price to create an electric wheelchair project through several stages, the first stage included the development of the mechanical design of the model.”

He added: I started the application about 8 months ago, despite the work difficulties caused by the lack of mechanical parts in the market, but I designed it based on my personal experience. The most difficult part was the mechanical transmissions of the design that take into account its different speeds, as I designed the metal structure in a way that helps the infirm to ease climbing and safe driving.

He pointed out that in the second stage, he used one of the engineers to increase the efficiency of the design, and relied on an electric power system that was fed by 8 battery cells that supported two electric motors to increase torque when traveling at different speeds. He also used motors that match the capacity of the battery cells with the design of an electrical unit.

Al-Jaja explained that this chair helps people with disabilities to move inside and outside cities at three different speeds. It is equipped with an electronic system to measure speed, another to measure the level of battery charge, a back-back system, electric start and stop, handbrake, and a driver’s seat with a 180-degree rotation feature, indicating that the model can be used. Through humanitarian organizations and associations, to support the infirm, paralyzed, war-wounded and people with disabilities, and its cost is relatively cheap compared to imported electric chairs, and the most important thing that distinguishes it is the ease of maintenance.

Al-Jaja confirmed that he has started implementing another design for a more innovative electric chair that helps the elderly to climb and descend stairs, and it needs a more complex mechanical system and a more advanced electrical power system due to the torque generated by the loads. It is expected that within two months the model will see the light.

In his turn, Engineer Obeida Qazzo said, “My participation in the design focused on the electronic and electrical part, as I developed a complete electrical study for the chair, which includes a control unit with electronic circuits, and it was applied to the chair and proved its effectiveness, taking into account that this unit is simple for the low material cost and ease of maintenance and operation.”

He added: We have other projects in the field of humanitarian work and helping the elderly, the most important of which is an electric chair for inclusion, and we hope for support to deliver our work to people in need.
