Munich - The polling stations for the federal election 2021 * in Germany will close in a few minutes.

Around noon, Armin Laschet *, candidate for chancellor of the CDU * / CSU, had an election glitch.

Now the next one happened: Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters *) published the so-called “Exit Polls” on Twitter in the late afternoon.

These show an initial tendency for the federal election results before the official projections.

The projections are usually published around 6 p.m.

Aiwanger shared numbers from a by-election poll shortly after 4 p.m.

Aiwanger commented on his "Exit Polls" post as follows: "Please send us the final votes now!"

Federal election 2021: Next breakdown - Hubert Aiwanger makes faux pas

The head of the Free Voters was apparently made aware of his faux pas relatively quickly.

The politician then deleted his post after a few minutes.

According to the Federal Election Act, such a publication can result in a fine of up to 50,000 euros: “The publication of the results of voter surveys after voting on the content of the voting decision is not permitted before the election period has expired,” says the law.

Aiwanger received direct criticism from the coalition partner in Bavaria: "An unbelievable case of election manipulation and voter influence," wrote CSU * General Secretary Markus Blume on Twitter.

"That is deeply undemocratic and must have consequences," said Blume.
