For two days, the National Museum in Lattakia hosted the civilizations and cultures of more than 22 countries around the world as part of the “Pathways of the World 2021” carnival event, organized by the International Junior Chamber-Latakia in cooperation with the Directorates of Culture, Antiquities and Museums in the governorate.

Dalia Suleiman, Chairman of the Chamber's Board of Directors, said in an interview with SANA that the carnival aims to promote the values of peace by introducing the peoples' heritage, their civilizational and cultural identity, and the capabilities of the creative and distinguished Syrian youth.

The carnival, according to Suleiman, is part of the global campaign organized by the International Chamber under the title “Safe in Syria” to emphasize the importance of this land, which gave the world the first alphabet and musical notes and its ability to bring together civilizations and cultures from different parts of the earth to introduce it and highlight its cultural and civilizational richness.

For his part, the project manager, Junior Makhoul, stated that the carnival consists of two cultural trips, the first of which leads the visitor to learn about the civilization of 22 countries, in which those concerned presented some of its pictures and antiques, in addition to many of its famous dishes and traditional costumes, noting that those who represent these pavilions are people who lived these pavilions. Civilizations are directly from their children residing in Syria and from Syrians who have lived in them for periods of their lives.

As for the second trip in the carnival, it includes, as Makhoul mentioned, exhibitions of sculptural works, plastic arts and the book, in which the Ministry of Culture and the Iranian Cultural Center participate, in addition to many interactive painting workshops for children, Arabic calligraphy, and a musical and dance celebration.

For his part, Director of Culture in Lattakia, Majd Sarim, praised the importance of the carnival as a message of peace and love and as an opportunity to introduce the customs and traditions of the various peoples of the world, pointing to the active participation of institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Culture in the event through students of institutes of applied and plastic arts and Mahmoud Al-Ajjan music in addition to the book fair.

In a meeting with some of the representatives of the pavilions participating in the carnival, Muhammad Zaarour, head of the cultural department in the Development Committee in the Palestinian returnees camp in Latakia, expressed his happiness to represent his homeland in the carnival by reviewing some of the ancient Palestinian heritage of traditional costumes, handicrafts or popular foods. Part of our heritage, and we are, despite that, resistance fighters, and we still dream of returning, and we always strive to introduce us, our heritage and our history to the world.”

In the Russian pavilion, Diana Kandil spoke about her happiness in representing the Russian civilization through traditional folk costumes, in addition to many symbols, and presenting Russian food to visitors, which was attended by Russian women specifically for the carnival.

It is noteworthy that the carnival was launched in its first session in 2018, and it will resume its launch more this year.
