Deficiency guarantee: Demand causes heated debate

But when Veronika Jones (The Greens) wanted to know at the meeting of the main committee in Murnau, why exactly TSV Murnau needed a default guarantee of 50,000 euros for a new combined heat and power plant from the municipality and whether it wouldn't be enough, the engine to exchange instead of the whole system - yes, it got uncomfortable.

Murnau

- What is the question about?

Whether Jones didn't know that TSV worked on a voluntary basis, she grumbled from the ranks of the committee.

Of course she knows very well.

“From my point of view, there were just a few harmless, legitimate questions,” she says in an interview with the daily newspaper.

"I didn't expect such an aggressive, almost hostile reaction."

TSV Murnau wants to replace the old block-type thermal power station

The whole debate is based on a motion from TSV Murnau. He wants to replace his nine-year-old combined heat and power plant with a new one. "Unfortunately, the engine keeps spinning - and then the showers can get cold," says TSV chairman Nikos Lotos. Repairing or replacing this would be the cheaper option at around 20,000 euros. However, according to Lotos, only at first glance. "The new generation of thermal power stations is so much more efficient that we can save a lot more money in the long term by purchasing a new one."

In order to get a better interest rate for the required loan from a bank, the TSV needs a default guarantee from the municipality.

"That brings us a little two percent down," says TSV treasurer Bernhard Gerstberger.

He is accordingly happy that the main committee has approved the application (we reported).

However, he cannot understand the only dissenting vote, that of Veronika Jones.

“The community has practically zero risk,” he emphasizes.

"Even if we should go bankrupt - and only then will the community ultimately vouch for us - in that case our assets, i.e. the sports hall, the economy and the football fields, would be overwritten." And that is probably worth a little more than the vouchers 50,000 euros.

Jones protests: She just wanted to know if there was a cheaper solution

All things Jones doesn't disagree about. “That's why I didn't care for a second,” she protests. They just wanted to clarify whether there might not be another, possibly more cost-effective solution to the problem. Whether comparative offers had been obtained and whether the new acquisition really made more ecological sense than a repair. “I see it as my duty to ask questions like this,” explains Jones. “You could have submitted the answers later and voted on them again in four weeks - then I would probably have agreed.” It is only important to her to treat all applicants equally. “It's about the distribution of public money - and we should apply identical standards here. Regardless of whether it concerns the sports club or an alternative cultural community. "

Sports advisor Zoepf thinks: Follow-up is of course legitimate

At the beginning, local council colleague Phillip Zoepf (More Moving) was not very enthusiastic about Jones' questions.

"At first it came across as if Veronika was against the proposal in principle," he says.

Hence the headwind.

But the sports officer now knows what Jones was trying to achieve.

“She actually just checked whether the measures really made sense - and that is of course legitimate.” The misunderstandings were cleared up over a beer after the meeting.

“That was important,” says Jones too.

"But I think we should always be able to discuss everything openly - without being attacked immediately."
