The city wants to ensure more safety for the students on their way to the school center.

From October, the access via the Bürgermeister-Lechenbauer-Straße will be limited in time, which means that parents will no longer be able to drive there in the morning.

That should also be the solution to another problem.

Schongau - A safe way to school - it is often the parents themselves who put other children at risk when they take their offspring to school by car.

This was observed again and again at the Schongau school center, even in the time before the big holidays there must have been a few dangerous situations again, as city builder Sebastian Dietrich now reported to the building committee.

"There are hazards in various areas, especially from pick-up and delivery traffic," said the city master builder.

The school administrators have repeatedly approached the city.

Now you want to act: "We tried to find a workable solution," said Dietrich.

Access restrictions apply from October

In concrete terms, vehicles from the roundabout into Bürgermeister-Lechenbauer-Strasse should no longer be able to access them from October onwards, and this is limited to the period between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. The buses are of course still allowed to drive to the schools. There should also be exemptions for teachers or school employees, explained Dietrich.

The city architect made it clear that this regulation could also be the solution to another problem: wild parking at the school center. Because parking spaces that are actually reserved for the teachers and marked as such are repeatedly occupied by parking offenders. Above all, it is about the teacher parking spaces in front of the technical center of the middle school and the Lech sports hall. "So far we have had no way of sanctioning it, in the future it can be controlled."

If you have to go to school in the morning to talk to parents or use the sports facilities in the morning, you can, according to the administration, switch to the parking spaces in the area of the former gardening area and at the fan shoe parking lot.

In the afternoon from 2 p.m. all parking spaces are again available without restriction, and the Bürgermeister-Lechenbauer-Straße can also be used again.

The solution is coordinated with the school principals

“This solution has been coordinated with all school principals,” Dietrich asked the building committee for approval. And the parents have been informed, "we have issued an information letter," added Deputy Mayor Daniela Puzzovio, who chaired the meeting that day. This regulation also corresponds to the conception for the school center, where possible to separate pedestrian and bicycle traffic from motorized traffic. A bicycle road has already been decided, but this will only be implemented in a second step, as Dietrich explained. And last but not least, the pick-up and delivery zone is now fully usable again. This was used during the recent construction work on Marktoberdorfer Strasse to direct traffic past the construction site.

"I think it's correct, but I have concerns about the pick-up and delivery zone," explained Nina Konstantin (ALS).

She observed several times how motorists entering this area from Schongau-West immediately turn left again in order to be able to drive up the Marktoberdorfer Straße again.

"You have to keep an eye on that." As the city architect explained, the way back for these parents in the west of Schongau is actually planned via Altenstadter Strasse and Schönlinderstrasse, "the returnable route is manageable".

New regulation should be checked

The plan is to work with the schools to create a mobility concept that will encourage children to come to school on foot or by bike. Dietrich promised to tackle the footpath and bike path along the Rösslekellerberg not too far away for this. It was important to Kornelia Funke (CSU) that regular checks take place with the new regulation, "otherwise it won't be of much use to us". Dietrich saw it in exactly the same way: "Wherever the police issue fines, it has a good effect." They want to arrange a regular check-up appointment.

"We are working in many directions, including in terms of the mobility concept," said Ilona Böse (SPD).

She pointed out that, due to the change in the bus stop, more children from Altenstadt are now coming to school by bike (we reported).

We urgently need to increase the number of bicycle parking spaces, she demanded.

These would become more and more, they would now be built at the south entrance of the elementary school, then at the secondary school and in the future at the middle school, explained Dietrich.
