Update, 4.37 p.m.:

At 2 p.m., the turnout in Germany was 36.5 percent.

That doesn't sound like much at first, especially since the value in 2017 was already 41.1 percent at this time.

You have to keep in mind, however, that the votes cast by postal vote are not yet taken into account.

"As expected, the voter turnout currently determined is below the value of 2017, as we are assuming a significantly higher proportion of postal voters whose participation will be determined at a later point in time as part of the determination of the final election results," said Federal Returning Officer Georg Thiel.

Bundestag election 2021 in Nuremberg: Mayor König calls for votes - high voter turnout is emerging

Update, 3:20 p.m.:

Nuremberg's Lord Mayor Marcus König calls on all Nuremberg residents to vote via Instagram and Facebook.

“I would like to see a high turnout and support from democratic forces in this election.

For our country, ”he writes in his post.

In Nuremberg there are already signs of a higher voter turnout than in the 2017 federal election. According to a spokeswoman for the electoral office, 31 percent voted by 12 noon.

That is a good two percentage points more than on election Sunday 2017 at this time.

In Nuremberg, the postal votes - unlike in Munich and Würzburg - are gradually "factored in," as the spokesman said.

Federal election in Nuremberg in 2021: Söder will vote in Mögeldorf

Update, 12 noon:

In the Mögeldorf district of Nuremberg, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder - at the side of his wife Karin Baumüller-Söder - has already cast his vote for the general election.

He was not nervous about the outcome of the election, but a little tense, said the CSU boss at the polling station in the Mögeldorf district of Nuremberg.

“There are nicer days,” he added.

"There is no more difficult day than election day because you wait and wait and wait and hope to get some good signal," he said.

He would attend the birthday party of Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) and then drive to Berlin, he described his daily routine.

"I hope that Armin Laschet gets the government contract," said Söder.

But it will be tight and therefore exciting.

Update, 10:28 a.m.:

The polling stations are open.

Currently, voters are still trickling into town halls in the Nuremberg and Middle Franconia region.

But slowly the rush is getting a little more.

In the early afternoon we will have a first intermediate result on the voter turnout.
