Update, 5.45 p.m.:

The polling stations will close in 15 minutes.

How did the individual parties fare?

The first projections will soon be available.

Update, 4:27 p.m.:

At 2 p.m., the turnout in Germany was 36.5 percent.

That doesn't sound like much at first, especially since the value in 2017 was already 41.1 percent at this time.

You have to keep in mind, however, that the votes cast by postal vote are not yet taken into account.

"As expected, the voter turnout currently determined is below the value of 2017, as we are assuming a significantly higher proportion of postal voters whose participation will be determined at a later point in time as part of the determination of the final election results," said Federal Returning Officer Georg Thiel.

#Bundestag election: Until 2 p.m., the turnout at the ballot box was 36.5%.

Federal parliamentary elections in Bayreuth and Upper Franconia in 2021: two municipalities also have referendums

Update, 3:42 p.m.:

In addition to the general election

, referendums

are also taking place in two municipalities in Upper Franconia, as the

BR

reports.

So here people can assign three crosses instead of two.

In the market town of Buttenheim (Bamberg district), voters can vote on the expansion of the Oberngrub wind farm.

There is also a referendum in Walsdorf.

This is where a decision is made as to whether a system for recycling food can be set up or not.

A citizens' initiative is against it, as residents fear odor nuisance.

Update, 12:05 p.m.:

This year, the general election in Bavaria's largest cities is showing a higher turnout.

In the state capital of Munich, almost 60 percent of voters had cast their vote by 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.

There the proportion of postal voters is particularly high.

A similar value was only reached around 2 p.m. in the last federal election in 2017.

Bundestag election in Bayreuth: high voter turnout in large cities in Bavaria

It was similar in Würzburg. The city's electoral office reported around 9 percent participation in the polling stations by 10 a.m. - in addition to 54 percent postal voters. According to a spokesman, the participation was already well over 60 percent in the morning.

The Regensburg polling stations reported a turnout of 4.8 percent by 10:00 a.m.,

but

including postal voters,

it was already 54.8 percent. In Regensburg, according to the city, 105,973 citizens are entitled to vote, more than half (53,016) had requested postal votes. In Ingolstadt it was 18.6 percent - without postal voting, as a spokesman for the local electoral office emphasized.

Update, 10.30 a.m.:

The polling stations are open.

Currently, voters are still trickling into town halls in the Bayreuth and Upper Franconia region.

But slowly the rush is getting a little more.

In the early afternoon we will have a first intermediate result on the voter turnout.
