Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal Miqdad discussed with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar today in New York ways to advance bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields.
The Indian minister explained his country's desire to enhance economic cooperation, stressing its continuation to provide possible assistance to Syria to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, stressing India's firm commitment to respecting Syria's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and its support for Syria in the fight against terrorism.
In turn, Minister Miqdad expressed Syria's appreciation for India's supportive stances for Syria and the assistance it provided, pointing out that Syria attaches great importance to developing relations with India, especially in light of Syria's policy of heading east.
The two ministers exchanged views on some developments on the regional and international arenas and the need to maintain the continuity of consultation and coordination between them.
The meeting was attended by the Syrian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, the Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations Bassam Sabbagh, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Special Office Department, and Ihab Hamed from the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
