Russian President Vladimir Putin has nominated former State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin to be the new speaker of the House after the parliamentary elections that took place in the country between the 17th and 19th of this month.
"I think that Vyacheslav Viktorovich (Volodin) deserves to head the Duma at its eighth session," TASS quoted Putin as saying during a meeting with leaders of the parties elected to the State Duma, noting that it is up to the party leaders to make this decision.
"I think that over the past four years, the leadership of the State Duma has conducted its business very professionally with all parties, especially during the difficult period in the fight against the Corona epidemic," he added.
The United Russia party won the State Duma elections by obtaining 324 seats in the elections that were held between 17 and 19 September, coinciding with the regional and municipal elections, where remote electronic voting was organized in many regions, including Moscow.
