Update from September 26, 3:58 p.m.:

Does the ballot glitch cost Laschet the election?

Many election observers and users on social media are currently concerned with this question.

The head of the INSA survey institute has now also commented on possible consequences.

You can read more about this, as well as the latest information and figures, in our news ticker for the 2021 federal election.

Update from September 26, 2:21 p.m.:

In the meantime, even the federal returning officer has reacted to Laschet's mistake.

Via Twitter it said: “Due to current events: A nationally known politician has elected his own party, as expected.

It cannot be seen as influencing voters. ”The electoral committee should have rejected Laschet's ballot.

However, once the note has landed in the urn, it is valid - also because it cannot be sorted out afterwards.

Bundestag election results: This is how it is according to current projections

Update from September 26, 12.25 p.m.:

Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet was already elected on Sunday - but he made a mistake.

When he threw the ballot into the ballot box, everyone present - including the photographers - could see whom he had given his two votes.

Normally, when leaving the voting booth, the slip of paper has to be folded in such a way that the crosses cannot be seen.

But with Laschet the writing pointed outwards.

As it says on the side of the Federal Returning Officer, the electoral committee should have rejected him.

Because in Germany elections are held according to five electoral principles: general, free, direct, equal and secret.

The latter was thereby injured.

First report from September 26th:

Berlin - After the 16-year Merkel era, a new head of government will be elected in Germany.

Who will succeed the Chancellor?

Can the CDU maintain the chancellery?

Or is it being ousted by the SPD or even by the Greens?

Federal Parliament election 2021: when will the first election results be?

There are many questions to be asked before the general election. The first indications of the future political situation in Berlin were the numerous surveys in the run-up to the federal election. The surveys of the opinion research institutes are, however, subject to fluctuations, which is why they usually deviate slightly from the actual result. Meanwhile, the forecasts and projections, which will be published on election day from 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively, are more concrete.

The final results of the 2021 federal election are not expected to be presented until Monday morning.

As a rule, however, it is already clear beforehand in which direction political Berlin is moving.

In 2017, for example, it became apparent relatively early on that Angela Merkel and the Union would prevail over the SPD and its candidate for chancellor Martin Schulz.

According to the surveys, this looks different this year.

The parties are closer together.

Results of the federal election in 2021: Surveys see the SPD in front, Union in second place in front of the Greens

According to the last polls before the federal election, there could be a change in leadership in the Chancellery after 16 years of the CDU / CSU. Because the SPD was ahead of the Union in the lead among pollsters. The Social Democrats recently achieved 25 to 27 percent. The CDU / CSU was able to stabilize slightly after a survey low and was just before the federal election at 21 to 22 percent. The Greens, who were meanwhile traded as the strongest force in the spring, came to 15 to 18 percent.

Behind the trio, which toured from Triell to Triell and from election arena to election arena during the election campaign, the FDP and AfD followed in the polls before the federal election.

Both parties were almost on par with the polls at 10 to 12 percent.

The left meanwhile reached 6 to 7 percent and could therefore not be completely sure until election day that the five percent hurdle would be overcome.

How will the federal election in 2021 turn out?

According to the survey, the information was given regardless of which party the respondents are personally close to.

Meanwhile, 18 percent of those questioned believed in the Union.

Few estimated that the Greens (4%) or other parties (2%) would get the most votes.
