Sudanese forces thwarted an attempt by Ethiopian forces to enter Sudanese territory.
The Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) quoted Brigadier General Taher Abuhaga, media advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, as saying today that the armed forces thwarted the attempt to incur the Ethiopian forces in the Umm Brakhit sector in the Al-Fashqa area and forced them to withdraw.
A dispute is taking place between Sudan and Ethiopia over the Al-Fashqa area in the Sudanese state of Gedaref. Negotiations between the two governments reached a compromise in 2008, as Ethiopia recognized the legal borders, while Sudan allowed the Ethiopians to continue to live in that area, which is considered Sudanese territory without hindrance.
