The evacuation continues.

La Palma - Since Sunday the volcano Cumbre Vieja on the Canary Island La Palma has been spitting lava, rocks and ash.

The lava has already destroyed countless houses and the poisonous sulfur dioxide cloud that rises from the volcano is expanding and could even reach Germany at the weekend.

Now there was another eruption of the volcano on La Palma.

Therefore, on Friday (September 24th) all flights to and from the Canary Island were canceled.

A total of seven flights by various airlines - Binter, Canaryfly and Iberia - have been canceled.

This was announced by the Spanish airport operating company Aena.

After another eruption: all flights to and from the Canary Island canceled

These were the first flights to be canceled since the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja on Sunday.

In some cases, however, the air area has already been declared a restricted zone.

On Friday (September 24th) a huge cloud of black ash rose into the air in the wake of the renewed eruption.

According to the Canarian Volcanic Institute Ivolcan, the eruptions can last three to twelve weeks - so there is no end in sight to this natural disaster.

The situation on the island is dramatic: the authorities had to order further evacuations for parts of the town of El Paso.

The “current eruptive phase” represents an “increased risk for the population”. This was announced by the regional government.

Natural disaster: Thousands of people lose houses - evacuation continues

More than 6,000 people have already had to leave their homes quickly, leaving almost all of their belongings behind.

Hundreds of houses and areas of land were destroyed by the 15 meter thick layer of lava.

The damage is currently estimated at well over 400 million euros.

The Canary Islands, which include Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and La Palma, are volcanic islands.

The volcano Cumbre Vieja on the island of La Palma last erupted exactly 50 years ago - in 1971. The last volcanic activity in the region of the Canary Islands occurred in 2011: There was a volcanic eruption on the seabed off the island of El Hierro.
