An era has come to an end at the Walpertskirchen warrior and soldier association.

Anton Wimmer, 33 years chairman, gave up his office.

His successor is Peter Schuler.

After 33 years, the Walpertskirchen warrior and soldier association has been given new management.

The 79-year-old chairman of the association and hard-working local chronicler Anton Wimmer resigned from his position after this long period.

His name is inextricably linked with the club's history.

Peter Schuler, who was previously an assessor, will succeed Wimmer.

He is well aware that there are “big footsteps”, said the new chairman at the club meeting in the Büchlmann guesthouse about Wimmer's life's work. Schuler wants to continue the well-run association with the new management team in the tried and tested manner. He is supported by the second chairman Robert Schöfer, the secretary Roland Thalmair, the treasurer Max Huber, the two assessors Anton Ziegleder and Josef Glockshuber as well as the flag junior Stefan Gaigl. The flag delegation with temporary staff consists of Sebastian Scheiel, Georg Hötscher and Rudolf Bruckbeck. The cash register is checked by Manfred Hötscher and Max Thalmair.

The outgoing club boss Wimmer, whose meritorious work has been recognized with numerous awards, has been a member of the club since 1965, was treasurer from 1972 and chairman since 1988. From 1978 to 1993 he was also involved as district manager for the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge (VDK). During his term of office, the legendary 1250th anniversary of the Walpertskirchen community fell in 1999. Wimmer worked on the festival committee and was significantly involved in the creation of a local chronicle with over 1000 pages.

In 2001 the Warrior and Soldier Association celebrated its 125th foundation festival. The comprehensive club history also bears Wimmer's signature. In 2014 a memorial book of the more than 500 soldiers who participated in the war was published in the church. A year later, Wimmer was honored for his 50-year membership in the association. In the same year the end of the Second World War 70 years ago was commemorated. In 2019, Martin Bürger, the last participant in the war from Walpertskirchen, died. In 2020 the association reached its 60-year membership in the VDK. Anton Wimmer himself visited many cemeteries for German soldiers all over the world.

The association currently has 92 members, including seven women.

The following members were honored for long-term loyalty to the association: Walter Röhling (55 years old), Erhard Lex (40 years old) and Josef Stangl (40 years old).

Sebastian Scheiel, Roland Thalmair, Peter Schuler and Rudolf Bruckbeck received the gold medal, Ernst Röhling and Marille Wimmer the white gold medal.

Warrior years, comradeship evenings, the Christmas party with auction, participation in birthdays, weddings and funerals, Corpus Christi, foundation festivals and flag consecrations, the gun meeting, the district assembly of warrior associations with honors and the district meeting of the Volksbund determine the annual course of the association, albeit a lot since Corona had to be canceled.
