Berlin: SPD wins election to the House of Representatives

In Berlin, all voting districts are counted: The SPD with top candidate Franziska Giffey reached 21.4 percent - and ended up ahead of the Greens.

    At 5.57 a.m. the breaking news comes from the dpa: The SPD has won the parliamentary elections in Berlin, all voting districts are counted.

    The party with top candidate Franziska Giffey reached 21.4 percent and ended up ahead of the Greens, who came to 18.9 percent.

    According to the regional election committee, the CDU achieved 18.1 percent, the Left 14.0 percent, the AfD reached 8.0 percent, and the FDP 7.1 percent.

    As before, Berlin can only be governed by a three-party alliance in the future.

    By the way, the election in Berlin was a bit chaotic.

    The polling stations actually close at 6 p.m.

    But yesterday, some voters were still waiting to put their crosses well after 6 p.m.

    In a polling station in the Pankow district, the last people had cast their votes around 6.45 p.m., in Reinickendorf around 7 p.m., up to 20 people were standing on the sidewalk in front of a polling station.

    The last vote was cast at one point in Wilmerdorf at 7.30 p.m.
