Gröbenzell - The Gröbenzeller community library is expanding its offer with a sustainable and ecological specialty: In autumn, a seed library is to be built in cooperation with the citizens.
With this, the community institution is taking a further, consistent step in terms of green and sustainable libraries.
At the same time, the seed library is a pioneering project because it is the first of its kind in the Fürstenfeldbruck district.
How does the seed library work?
In a seed library, customers can find seeds from various plants free of charge - everything from herbs and vegetables to flowering plants is included. The community library will start construction in autumn and is looking forward to the help of as many citizens as possible, who collect seeds, dry them and then hand them in to the library in small, labeled bags. The employees then sift through the seeds, refill them and store them over the winter. In the spring, hobby gardeners can collect seeds from the library free of charge to sow in their own garden or on the balcony and let Groebenzell bloom. At the end of the flowering or harvesting period, the newly created seeds should be collected again and returned to the library as new seeds.
The aim of the seed library is to preserve old, rare varieties and to promote plant diversity and diversity in the region.
The idea originally came from America, where there are a lot of genetically modified seeds.
