Dresden / Frankfurt - While the AfD * at the federal level comes to just under 10 percent in the preliminary results, things look very different in Saxony.

Here the party made it from the far right to over 20 percent.

Overall, the AfD in Saxony received 24.6 percent of the second votes cast.

Compared to the federal election 2021 * from 2017, the AfD lost 2.4 percent, but was still the strongest force in the federal election in Saxony.

The SPD * was able to achieve second place in Saxony with 19.3 percent.

Similar to the national comparison, the CDU * suffered heavy losses.

The party behind the candidate for the Chancellery, Armin Laschet *, only achieved 17.2 percent in Saxony.

Compared to the 2017 federal election, the Union party had lost almost 10 percent.

At that time, the CDU came in second with 26.9 percent.

While the Greens * made it to third place nationwide, they are far behind the left in Saxony.

In Saxony, the self-proclaimed eco-party received 8.6 percent of the second votes cast.

In direct comparison with the 2017 federal election, however, the party was able to almost double its result.

From then 4.6 percent to 8.6 percent today.

In the federal election in 2021, the AfD was able to obtain 10 of the 16 possible direct mandates.

In the past, i.e. in the 2017 federal election, the AfD was only able to win three mandates in Saxony.

Bundestag election 2020: SPD in Saxony highly satisfied

General Secretary Alexander Dierks of the CDU in Saxony expressed his deep disappointment to n-tv.

His party colleague Marco Wanderwitz also attributed the bitter blow to a belated election of his party in the 2020 federal election.

The CDU won four of the other direct mandates.

He said at an election party: "We are the winners of this evening".
