On the evening of the election, Söder had spoken to the Berlin group that what was needed was an alliance with an idea of how to renew Germany.
"And I believe that we can document this claim well with Armin Laschet *, perhaps with the FDP and the Greens together," said the CSU chairman.

Federal election 2021: CSU weakens under Söder

After counting all 46 voting districts, the CSU in Bavaria came to a second vote share of 31.7 percent.
The party lost 7.1 percentage points compared to the election four years ago and achieved the second worst result in its history.
The CSU had its worst result in the first federal election in 1949 with 29.2 percent.
In the 2017 federal election * it was 38.8 percent, which was the second worst result so far.
