Marktoberdorf - Not every pet fares like Findus, the talking tomcat who got to his foster father Petterson in an empty pea box. However, all animals - and also the employees of the animal shelter in Marktoberdorf - want a happy ending like in the children's book. Two animals have been released there in the past few days, a dog and a cat. Now the police are asking for relevant information.

Because if you simply abandon your pet to get rid of it or to evade your own obligation to keep your pet, you are violating animal welfare law, as the police report.

This administrative offense can be punished with a fine of up to 25,000 euros.

“Anyone who can no longer look after their pet for valid reasons,” explains Kurt Budschied, first board member of the Marktoberdorf Animal Welfare Association, “should hand it over to the animal shelter in a sensible way.

This also includes a conversation about the history of the animal, its peculiarities and previous illnesses, so that we can then convey it appropriately. "

However, this did not happen in the following two cases.

On Tuesday morning, an employee of the animal shelter discovered a cardboard box from a delivery service outside the gates of the animal shelter, which was glued with duct tape.

In the box was a ten-year-old male, probably a European longhair or Maine Coon mix.

The cat is neutered, but not tattooed or chipped.

He is blind in the left eye.

Because it is not clear how and by whom the cat was released, it is possible that the velvet paw is already missing from its actual owner.

Tied to the road fence

In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a small male terrier was tied to the fence of the animal shelter on the hard shoulder directly on Engratsrieder Strasse. His bed and other accessories were also handed in with him. After the wooden dog bed has been painted with children's doodles, the animal shelter assumes that the white and brown terrier comes from a household with children. He must have been to the dog groomer not so long ago, it wasn't that long ago trimming. In addition, the male wore a leather collar, which was rather fat, brown with white crosses.

The animal shelter and the Marktoberdorf police station are now asking for information about the abandoned animals.

Anyone who knows something about the origin of a male or a terrier can get in touch with the police on 08342/960 420 or with the Marktoberdorf animal shelter on 08342/5676.
