New York-Sana
Afghanistan today withdrew its participation in the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly.
"Afghanistan has withdrawn its participation in the public debate without giving any reason to explain this," a spokeswoman for the President of the General Assembly, Monica Grayley, was quoted by AFP as saying.
The Taliban movement in Afghanistan had asked the United Nations that the new foreign minister be able to speak before the General Assembly, but its request, which was submitted a week ago, came too late to be taken into consideration.
The Taliban took control of the Afghan capital, Kabul, on August 15, with the US administration announcing the withdrawal of its forces after twenty years of military intervention that led to chaos and instability in Afghanistan.
