Between disappointment, cautious optimism and jubilation: On the evening of the election, the Oberallgäu direct candidates met with their party colleagues for the mandatory election party.

The messenger captured the mood as well as the first statements.

The constituency 265 (Oberallgäu-Lindau-Kempten) remains in CSU hands after Mechthilde Wittmann won the direct mandate for the Christian Socials with

29.7 percent of

Election results: mixed feelings at the CSU

Around 30 CSU supporters came together on Sunday for the CSU election party on the premises of the Berchthold company in Kempten to follow the first projections and the election results together. The eight beer tables were decorated with Bavaria flags, the buffet had hot dogs, noodles and sandwiches. When Mechthilde Wittmann, candidate for the Bundestag, arrived around 6.30 p.m., the party society applauded in unison. Nevertheless, the overall mood remained rather subdued. The first projections were followed with mixed feelings. "I'm very relaxed," said Wittmann, "I'll wait and see."

"Waiting and optimistic" also described the mood: "Avoiding red-red-green was important to us, and we managed that." decide.

Your predecessor Dr.

Gert Müller warmly congratulated them.

“I've always wanted to go to the Bundestag,” said the single mother of two.

In 2016 she rejected the candidacy with a heavy heart of the children, all the more she is looking forward to the work in the Bundestag now that the children are old enough.

And of course preferably in the government rather than in the opposition: "Politics is the will to shape!"

Winner of the federal election: joy in the SPD

A good 40 people took note of the first projections with the SPD candidate for the Bundestag in the Löwensaal in Lindenberg. In the course of the evening, expressions brightened as the SPD result stabilized as the election winner. There was particular jubilation at the local result. Martin Holderied had clearly won the victory in his hometown with 30.4 percent of the first votes. Overall, the result in the Kempten-Lindau-Oberallgäu district came in second with the first votes with

15.8

percent.

Holderied thanked them for the encouragement in two short speeches.

He especially mentioned the support of his parents and his partner, and his election campaign team and remembered the deceased friend and companion Gerd Ilg.

Looking back, based on the installation conference in the snow in Immenstadt, the many actions, the encouragement and the diverse support, he emphasized the joint action for this success.

In addition to food and drink, he thanked the helpers with a small souvenir.

3rd place: cautious optimism among the Greens

The Oberallgäu Greens met on the evening of the election in the Café Majoca of the Margaretha and Josefinen monastery, while their direct candidate for the Bundestag, Pius Bandte, who

did not make it

into the Bundestag with

15.4

percent, stayed with the Lindau Greens. The first projections, which the Greens saw at 14 to 15 percent, did not spark any enthusiasm, but did not really seem to surprise anyone. It was “a tough election campaign”, summarized Erna-Kathrein Groll, “we plowed more than ever before”.

For Thomas Hartmann, too, it had been "clear for a long time" that the Greens would "not succeed in marching through".

There is now "no other priority than effective climate protection," Hartmann agrees with resentment.

It is crucial to “gain enough influence in a future government coalition to get through what is essential”.

Unlike resentment, for which the FDP and the Greens live in “completely different worlds” at least at the federal level, Hartmann hopes that an alliance with the Liberals could bring about “more acceptance in business and society” for the “significant changes” that make for effective Climate protection policy are essential.

Cheers from the FDP

At around 7.30 p.m. there were cheers from the upper floor of the barrel hall in Kempten, which could already be heard in the entrance area. The Liberals closely followed the projections and interviews on a large screen. The supporters of the FDP appeared in large numbers, and the mood was relaxed and happy. They are satisfied with the election result and look forward to the coalition negotiations, as the state parliament member and Kempten city councilor Dr. Dominik Spitzer (2nd from left, back) says. And what's more: According to City Councilor Ullrich Kremser (right), the number of members has also increased significantly in recent months. He is particularly pleased that many young people have joined the party.

So there is plenty of reason for the Liberals to celebrate, as it looks like the once ailing party will gain strength.

Also on the photo are district chairman Frank Häring (back left) and two liberal "veterans", the married couple Dr.

Holger Bock (front left), next to Dr.

Gisela Bock and to her right Melanie Bindhammer from the constituency office of the Bundestag member Stefan Thomae (

13.1

percent), who celebrated as deputy chairman of the Bundestag parliamentary group in Berlin and was repeatedly switched on via screen.

Free voters: focus on the future

"It's not because of us that we didn't move into the Bundestag," says Alexander Hold with certainty.

About two weeks ago, the free voters in the polls were three and a half to four percent and “just a little push” was missing to be represented in parliament for the first time at federal level.

Direct candidate Annette Hauser-Felberbaum received a lot of approval during the election campaign: “A lot of voters feel that they are“ no longer properly understood ”by the established parties.

They longed for "unspent bourgeois strength, for completely normal people who are on site," says Hold, and sees themselves confirmed by the 8.3 percent result in the Oberallgäu constituency.

With champagne and canapés in the small election office of the Free Voters, Hauser-Felberbaum is still “happy” about her personal result of

9.0

percent and is convinced that the future belongs to a “citizen-oriented, solution-oriented policy” with “down to earth”.

Your party will continue to adhere to “no corporate donations”, even if it cannot keep up with the campaigns of the more established parties.

Disappointment at Die Linke

Direct candidate Engelbert Blessing got

2.7

percent of the first votes. "It's not such a great result now, there is no arguing about it," he said. For the election party, the left of the Oberallgäu and Ostallgäu constituencies joined forces in Kaufbeuren. A hard core of around 20 election workers and a few guests followed the projections in the “Zurek's” café bar.

Blessing had never expected a direct mandate, because "the chances of asserting yourself against the CSU were never particularly great in the 256 constituency." And a list placement was never a premise either.

“My goal has always been a good result,” says the 36-year-old native of Gunzesrieder, “and that is of course already disappointing.” Nevertheless, Blessing was happy that his party can continue to do the “important” opposition work.

AfD: Optimistic despite losses

The direct candidate of the AfD, Dr. Rainer Rothfuß and around 60 AfD supporters gathered in the Bassano pizzeria in Oberstaufen on election evening. In a first comment, Rothfuß spoke of a “nice signal” and “recognition for the work”. The local and district associations had done a “great job” in the election campaign of the past few months. Rothfuß himself ended up with

8

percent behind Stephan Thomae (FDP) and Annette Hauser-Felberbaum (FW).

The AfD deliberately addressed specific issues, such as security and the pandemic.

Now it is necessary to wait for the final composition of the Bundestag: He believes he has a good chance of moving into parliament through compensation and overhang mandates.

“I bought the ticket for the trip to Berlin three weeks ago.

The train leaves Lindau on Tuesday at 7.32 am, ”said Rothfuß, optimistically on the evening of the election.

He looks forward to further political work.
