  • The federal election 2021 * took place in Germany on September 26th.

  • Government participation is almost certain for the Greens *.

  • Annalena Baerbock * and Robert Habeck * speak at a press conference on possible coalitions in the federal government *.

Everything about it in our live ticker.

Berlin - In the party headquarters of the Greens there were mixed feelings after the federal election on Sunday evening.

Although the party had increased by 5.8 percentage points to 14.8 percent compared to the last general election, it was still well below expectations and survey results.

But it seems almost certain that the party around Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock * will belong to the future federal government.

Together with the FDP, the Greens will in all likelihood be the two small partners in a coalition.

The only question is with which Chancellor.

Because the choice is a traffic light with the election winner SPD and a Chancellor Olaf Scholz *.

Or a Jamaica alliance with the Union and a CDU * Chancellor Armin Laschet *.

Starting at 2:15 p.m., Green Top candidate Annalena Baerbock and her co-chairman Robert Habeck will comment on the results of the federal election and possible coalitions in a press conference.

Bundestag election 2021: Greens want to set the course for the future

According to Baerbock, the future government coalition is about setting the course for the future, according to the top candidate on Sunday evening in the “Berlin Round” of ARD and ZDF.

The next federal government must set the course for Germany to become climate neutral in the next two decades, said Baerbock.

And then you have to talk to all actors: "It's not about the lowest common denominator, but it is really now at this historical moment ... to set the course for the future."

The Greens were elected by a large number of young people.

It is also about intergenerational equity.

The future alliance must now set all the guard rails so that Germany not only goes the path of climate neutrality, but also ensures that the country's prosperity is secured, said Baerbock.

Together with Robert Habeck *, she will discuss how this great responsibility can be met.

Olaf Scholz (SPD) has a "clear leap of faith" from the Greens

Habeck said that the FDP * would be approached first. It must now be possible to forge an alliance "with its own identity" and "not just the sum of no's and no's and no compromises," said the party leader of the Greens with a view to a possible traffic light or Jamaica coalition *. Habeck also emphasized that Olaf Scholz had received a “clear leap of faith” from the voters and that the SPD * would be “well ahead of the Union”. A traffic light coalition is therefore not a sure-fire success.

Greens managing director Michael Kellner also sees Olaf Scholz as the clear winner of the election.

"The voters wanted Olaf Scholz, Armin Laschet has weak values," the 44-year-old told dpa.

"We are now closer to an SPD than to the Union," continued Kellner.

The Greens are still ready to hold talks with all democratic parties.
