Latakia-SANA

Today, the General Authority for Fisheries and Aquaculture completed the second phase of its plan to farm the Tishreen 16 Dam lake by cultivating 300,000 fingerlings of the two types of carp and comb within a general plan aimed at cultivating 760,000 fingerlings in the governorate’s dams.

Director General of the Authority, Dr. Abdul Latif Ali Bin, told SANA reporter that the culture plan in the Tishreen 16 Dam amounts to 600,000 fingerlings, 300,000 of which were cultured in the first phase, and today another 300,000 fingerlings have been cultured.

He explained that the authority has developed a plan for the cultivation of about 760 thousand fingerlings in the dams of Lattakia Governorate, of which about 680 thousand fingerlings have been completed so far, with work continuing to implement the full plan, pointing out that the authority has adopted an ambitious plan this year for cultivating water bodies with up to three million fingerlings distributed among 14 dams and dams. Water distributed in the governorates of Lattakia, Tartous, Homs and Hama with the aim of reconstructing the fish stocks of these bodies, especially those in areas under the control of terrorist organizations, indicating that they contribute to securing job opportunities for the local community surrounding the water bodies that are farmed.

He called for the cooperation of the local community with the authority in preserving and protecting these fingerlings to reach the stage of reproduction and maturity to be able to reproduce, in turn, to return the stock and renew it automatically.

He pointed out that the authority had previously been farmed in Lake Qalaat al-Madiq, Ain al-Taqa, in the dams of Tishreen 16, Karsana, Khirbet al-Jawziya, and a number of dams in Lattakia Governorate, with the possibility of farming in two other dams in the governorate according to the average amount of water in them.

During culturing fish in Lake October 16, the lake cages farm dedicated to carrying out experiments in the field of carp and comb fish, which is the first experience of culturing comb fish in cages in Syria, and conducting experiments on the average weight and different densities to reach the optimal weight and density to increase productivity per unit area in farms cages.

Dr. Ali indicated that these experiments and their results are circulated to breeders to benefit from them, and they issue scientific bulletins and research within the steps taken to increase local fish production and contribute to achieving food security for local communities, noting that the results of experiments are reflected in reality through the transfer of technology to breeders.
