Over 6000 candidates tried to move into the Bundestag through a direct mandate.

Surprisingly, some particularly well-known politicians have lost the fight for the direct mandate.

Berlin - The race for the distribution of seats in the new Bundestag is over.

According to the preliminary result, the SPD emerges as the winner with Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz.

The Union (CDU / CSU), on the other hand, emerged from the election with a historically poor share of the vote.

The Greens are the third largest party behind the Union.

FDP, AfD and the left follow.

As part of the first vote, more than 6000 candidates in a total of 299 constituencies fought for a direct mandate - and thus for direct entry into the Bundestag.

There are numerous well-known politicians among the candidates who - sometimes very surprisingly - were unable to win the direct mandate.

However, these candidates can still move into the Bundestag via the state lists.

An overview.

Baerbock (Greens) loses direct mandate to Scholz (SPD)

Probably the most prominent loser in the race for a direct mandate is the Greens' candidate for chancellor, Annalena Baerbock - not only because she is the top candidate of her party, but because she lost the direct mandate to Olaf Scholz, the SPD's candidate for chancellor.

In her constituency 61 in Potsdam she received 18.8 percent of the vote.

Scholz (SPD), on the other hand, received 33.9 percent of the first votes cast.

The defeat of the former President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Hans-Georg Maaßen (CDU), also caused a stir.

Probably the most controversial CDU Bundestag candidate was defeated in constituency 196 in southern Thuringia to his competitor from the SPD, the former Olympic champion Frank Ullrich.

Maassen (CDU) received only 22 percent of the first votes.

Ullrich (SPD), on the other hand, was able to win over 33 percent of the voters.

The CDU losers in the federal election: Philip Amthor, Julia Klöckner and Helge Braun

The young and sometimes controversial CDU Bundestag candidate Philip Amthor also lost to the SPD competition in constituency 16 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

SPD Bundestag candidate Erik von Malottki prevailed against Amthor (CDU).

Amthor only got 20.7 percent of the vote - in the previous federal election it was 31.2 percent.

The Federal Minister of Agriculture Julia Klöckner (CDU) also lost her direct mandate to the SPD Bundestag candidate Joe Weingarten.

In her constituency of Kreuznach in Rhineland-Palatinate, she was only able to win 29.1 percent of the voters - in the SPD competition Weingarten it was 33 percent.

Merkel's constituency goes to an SPD candidate for the first time in 30 years

Helge Braun (CDU), the head of the Chancellery, also lost the fight for direct entry into the Bundestag. In his constituency of Giessen, the SPD candidate Felix Döring won with 30.54 percent. Braun (CDU) was only just behind with 29.6 percent of the first votes. As with many other candidates, however, both are very likely to move into the Bundestag via their state list.

The result in Angela Merkel's former constituency was also surprising.

After more than 30 years, the direct mandate in the constituency of Vorpommern-Rügen - Greifswald I, did not go to a Union candidate but to an SPD candidate.

Merkel's successor as CDU direct candidate Georg Günther lost the first mandate to the 27-year-old competitor from the SPD, Anna Kassautzki.

This was able to win 24.3 percent of the votes.

Georg Günther was only able to win over 20.4 percent of the voters.

First vote: CDU / CSU lose votes - SPD wins

Overall, the Union (CDU / CSU) emerged as the loser in the Bundestag election not only in the second votes, but also in the first votes.

The Union was able to unite 22.5 percent of the first votes, the SPD, however, 26.4 percent.

The Union lost 7.7 percent of the vote compared to the last federal election.

The SPD, on the other hand, was able to gain 1.8 points.
