A young climber perished Monday, September 27 in the landslide of boulders in a moraine, in the Mer de Glace sector in the Mont-Blanc massif, according to the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM).

He was part of a team of two people who came down from the Couvercle refuge, in the direction of Chamonix (Haute-Savoie).

While crossing a moraine, a landslide occurred and unfortunately took one of the two people on board,
" the PGHM told AFP.
His companion immediately notified the emergency services.

The climber, originally from the department and aged in his thirties, “
was completely buried
” when the rescuers arrived.
They "
worked two hours with sufficient resources to extract
" the victim but could only note his death.
According to the PGHM, this type of landslide in a moraine area is "
quite rare
".
The weather conditions were not particularly risky.
