The constituency of Weilheim, to which the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district belongs, is represented in the new Bundestag with two members: In addition to Alexander Dobrindt, who won the direct mandate for the CSU, Gerrit Huy from the AfD also made it into parliament via the state list.

For Elisabeth Löwenbourg-Brzezinski of the Greens, this dream did not come true.

District

- Gerrit Huy had not left the election party in the Weilheim “shooting range” on Sunday evening.

The result of the AfD was somewhat okay, but whether it would still be enough for her wobbly position twelve on the state list, she was more than skeptical.

The surprise was all the greater on Monday when a party colleague from Starnberg called during breakfast and brought Huy the happy announcement that she was the last candidate from Bavaria to make it to Berlin.

Alexander Dobrindt wins direct mandate

This makes Huy the second member of the Bundestag to come from constituency 226 (districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Weilheim-Schongau).

As is well known, the direct mandate won again CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt from Peißenberg.

Huy's life is being turned upside down.

The 68-year-old, who lives in Inning, is flying to Berlin for the constituent meeting tomorrow.

“The tasks are distributed and working groups are formed.

I'm looking forward to it, that's exactly mine, ”says the former manager.

Some members of the Bundestag have already reported "and want to work with me, it's a good togetherness," says Huy, who already knows some of them from her work in the Berlin Technical Committee for Labor and Social Affairs, where she was responsible for the pension concept.

She also wants to make this her topic.

Gerrit Huy enters parliament via the state list

The AfD is very happy: “After our district association already had Dr. Anne Cyron was able to send her to parliament, we now also have a member of the Bundestag, ”says Helmut Filser, head of the right-wing conservative party in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. The performance of the AfD in this country (6.7 percent for the first vote, 7.8 percent for the second vote) does not, however, reflect the popularity of the election campaign. "In this alone, the district association was able to record a membership increase of 40 percent," reports Filser. In his opinion, a conservative majority from the Union, AfD and FDP would be possible at the federal level. This option is not even discussed, sums up Filser, who announces a “tough opposition policy”. "The strong result of the AfD in Saxony and the eastern federal states showswhere the journey can go. "

The Greens increased significantly in the Weilheim constituency compared to 2017, but fell short of expectations.

Many election campaigners had hoped for more - given the soaring of their party.

Top candidate Elisabeth Löwenbourg-Brzezinski did not manage to move into the Bundestag - although she was placed on a promising 21st place on the list.

However, Bavaria's Greens only have a total of 18 tickets to be awarded to Berlin.

"It was clear from the start that there was no guarantee," says the woman from Weilheim.

Nevertheless, she achieved a “respectable result” for a newcomer and political career changer - especially in a CSU-dominated region.

Now, at the federal level, it is important to bring the Greens' core concern, climate protection, to the fore in the upcoming coalition negotiations.

Andreas Krahl, Member of the Landtag of the Greens from Seehausen, is also satisfied with the result, but does not hold back in his election analysis with self-criticism: In rural areas, he believes that a second strong topic has been neglected in addition to climate protection.

He thinks of social policy, such as the acute problem of the lack of affordable housing.

The CSU has clearly benefited from the “Dobrindt effect”, continues the politician.

And the free voters would have scored well - at the expense of the other parties.

And what is his prognosis for green government participation?

In addition to a continuation of the grand coalition, a three-party alliance with the SPD and FDP (“Ampel”), but also with the Union and FDP (“Jamaica”) would be possible.

“That has to be decided by the base,” says Krahl.
