The CSU experienced a debacle in the federal election.

Almost all direct mandates could be defended, but Scheuer and Bär suffered heavy losses.

Munich - In the federal election in 2021 *, the CSU * of party leader Markus Söder * had the worst result in more than 70 years.

After counting all constituencies, it came to 31.7 percent - a decrease of around seven percent compared to the 2017 federal election (38.8 percent).

In 1949 the party achieved its worst result with 29.2 percent.

Bundestag election: CSU defends almost all direct mandates - Scheuer and Bär have to accept losses

Regardless of the high losses, the CSU was able to defend the direct mandates in 45 of the 46 Bavarian districts.

Only in Munich South was the Green candidate, Jamila Schäfer, ahead.

Nevertheless, top politicians in the Union suffered heavy losses.

Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer got his constituency in Passau with 30.7 percent, but lost 16.8 percentage points.

Regarding his result, he said: "I had three and a half years of brutally tough years and was also tackled quite roughly by the opposition, which will certainly have had an impact."

Digital Minister of State Dorothee Bär also lost 12 percent *, but still won her constituency of Bad Kissingen with 39.1 percent of the first votes.

“Personally, I am very satisfied with my result,” Bär explained to the

, even if not all of the votes were counted for this yet.

However, she had set herself apart from the competition early on.

"This result is well above the national average as well as the Bavarian figures," emphasized Bär.

In her eyes, that speaks clearly for the vote she has received.

"Unfortunately, you can never fully assert yourself against the national trend," she said of her losses compared to the last election
