76% of homicides in 2020 were the result of gun violence, compared to 73% in 2019. Houston itself had a 55% increase in these cases, with 343 incidents last year compared to 221 two years ago - according to the Washington Post.
As for violent crimes, the rate of cases increased by about 5.6% (almost 1.3 million).
At the same time, property offenses decreased by 7.8% to about 6.5 million cases, making 2020 the 18th year in a row that the number of property offenses is declining.
