Olaf Scholz, Armin Laschet or Annalena Baerbock - SPD, Union or Greens? Who will emerge as the winner of the 2021 federal election?

Olaf Scholz, Armin Laschet or Annalena Baerbock - SPD, Union or Greens?

Who will emerge as the winner of the 2021 federal election?

Berlin - Article 63 regulates in the Basic Law (GG) the powers of the Federal President with regard to the appointment of the Federal Chancellor.

Or the Chancellor.

The Federal President proposes a candidate to the German Bundestag.

He (or she) is based on the strongest parliamentary group and / or the expected majority of a coalition after a federal election.

Ergo: After the federal election in 2021, incumbent Frank-Walter Steinmeier will propose the candidate for chancellor to parliament.

To understand: Before the election (for the first time) the Greens, the SPD and the CDU / CSU each nominated a candidate for chancellor as a union.

These are in particular:

The preliminary final result according to bundeswahlleiter.de shows the SPD as the strongest force.

The Social Democrats, with Olaf Scholz as candidate for chancellor, have won the election.

That does not automatically mean that the SPD will also sit in the future government and provide the next chancellor - a coalition has to be found first.

Nevertheless, the SPD's chances of joining the government are very good, because normally the strongest party in the election invites to initial coalition negotiations.

The CDU / CSU, on the other hand, are likely to be very disappointed with the preliminary final result.

With 24.1 percentage points, the Union achieved a historically poor election result.

The CSU is also looking at its worst result since 1949 in a federal election.

In Bavaria it was only able to reach 31.7 percent (2017: 38.8), which corresponds to 5.2 percent nationwide.

The Greens land in third place with 14.8 percent.

The FDP was finally able to overtake the AfD.

The left, on the other hand, only has 4.9 percent.

Who is the election winner?

Olaf Scholz (SPD) was ahead

Anyone who gets a majority with their own parliamentary group and the parliamentary groups of the coalition partners can be elected as the new Federal Chancellor.

In the expectation that Parliament will then vote for him or her with the necessary majority on the proposal of the Federal President.

In the polls for the federal election, SPD Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz was three to five percentage points ahead of Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet in mid-September and a week before the polls (partly clear).

Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock was beaten in third place at this point.
