The reason for this was a ballot that named a very special candidate.

Munich

- election workers have a very monotonous job.

Counting, opening and evaluating ballot papers.

But now and then there is also a ray of hope in the work of those who have been called involuntarily.

Namely, when a voter allows himself a joke - and simply fills the ballot paper according to his own wishes.

"I would like to leak a rather uninteresting piece of information about BTW21," wrote a Munich election worker on Twitter - and it made people smile.

This is Gregor Schmalzried, an internet reporter at

BR24

and also very active on Twitter under the name Grexgor.

Bundestag election in Munich: curious ballot paper causes laughter on the net

This year Gregor was appointed election worker in the federal election in 2021 - and made a curious discovery on Twitter at around 8.30 p.m. on the evening of the election.

The “uninteresting info about BTW21” turned out to be a really funny anecdote.

Which would be: “In my district there was exactly 1 vote for Empress Sissi.

Which is not much, but more than I would have expected. "

Unfortunately, one vote for “Sissi” is not enough for a direct mandate.

But Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, as she was actually called, would not have benefited much from receiving even greater approval.

After all, the monarch, once born as a Bavarian princess in Possenhofen am Starnberger See, is long dead. September 10th of this year marked the 123rd anniversary of the year on which the empress was assassinated by the Italian anarchist Luigi Lucheni by means of a sharp file was murdered.

By the way, I was an election worker today for the count in Munich and would like to leak some rather uninteresting information about # btw21:

In my district there was exactly 1 vote for Empress Sissi.

Which is not much, but more than I expected.

Ballot for Empress Sissi: Desired direct candidate has been dead for 123 years

In addition to this fact, there is another sadness: smearing a ballot paper with an invalid name renders the paper invalid - and the vote is given away.

But at least the invalid slips can be found in the voter turnout.

However, the Twitter community celebrated the unknown Sissi voter with great joy.

And a Twitter account called “Sissi die II” promptly spoke up and commented: “Of course, my Franz chose me.” Well, if that's not love ...

But how did the people of Munich actually vote who did NOT write “Sissi” on the ballot?

We have broken this down in interactive maps for all parts of the city.
