The government put forward the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 in its "Policy Address" last year, and will release an updated version of the "Hong Kong Climate Action Blueprint 2030+" at the end of the year.

Twenty environmental groups jointly signed a petition to the Hong Kong government, requesting the government to formulate an aggressive climate policy, and to explain the climate policy roadmap for the next ten years and beyond in the blueprint.

Environmental groups Greenpeace, Low-Carbon Ideas and "350 Hong Kong", today (28th) petitioned the Hong Kong government, requesting the government to formulate an aggressive climate policy, and to account for carbon in the "Hong Kong Climate Action Blueprint 2030+" updated at the end of the year Neutralization timetable and route map.

The co-signed document received responses from 20 environmental groups, including the Hong Kong Branch of the World Wide Fund for Nature, the Council for the Promotion of Environmental Protection, etc.

Advocate the energy mix to increase the proportion of renewable energy to 10%

The group put forward recommendations on a number of climate policies in the plan, including requesting the Hong Kong government to set a legally binding carbon reduction target with the goal of controlling global warming within 1.5 degrees.

The Environmental Group also urged the Hong Kong government to increase the development of renewable energy, and by 2030, the proportion of renewable energy in the power generation energy mix to 10%.

The Environmental Group also believes that the authorities should add a scoring system to measure actual energy use to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, while at the same time imposing additional fees on companies with high carbon emissions.

In terms of transportation policy, the Hong Kong Government also needs to improve walking facilities and expedite the formulation of a timetable for the elimination of fuel vehicles.

Faced with the threat of rising water levels caused by climate warming, Huan Tuan proposed in its proposal that the Hong Kong government should give priority to protecting natural barriers such as mangroves to enhance climate resilience.

Global warming is like "cooking" the earth's circle of art works calling for attention

The group also brought works of art that symbolize the current state of the earth, saying that the climate crisis is a "big pot" crisis, and Hong Kong cannot be alone. If the government wants to "school a small fire", it needs to explain a clear carbon neutral road map and establish an enterprising climate. Policies and practical implementation will cool the "big pot".

Mai Yongkai mentioned that the abnormal weather in recent years has severely affected all parts of the world. The floods in Zhengzhou, North America, Brazil and even Taiwan are good examples.

Mai Yongkai, co-founder of "350 Hong Kong", pointed out that in recent years, abnormal weather has severely affected all parts of the world, such as the successive floods in Zhengzhou, Taiwan, North America, and Brazil in South America.

Greenpeace project director Wu Hanlin added that abnormal weather also affects Hong Kong. "It's like today, and the Mid-Autumn Festival will be hot." He pointed out that it is the responsibility of Hong Kong as an international city to formulate an aggressive climate policy and cooperate with global actions to alleviate the climate crisis.
