The price setting committee in Tartous governorate approved the wages of olive pressing in the governorate through a cash or in-kind allowance, whereby the farmer can choose the allowance he deems appropriate.
The Director of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Tartous, Youssef Hassan, told SANA reporter that an amount of 135 Syrian pounds was set for pressing one kilogram of olives, or 8% of the oil in kind, if the farmer transferred the olives from the house to the mill, the oil from the mill to the house, and the arjoum to the owner of the olives.
He pointed out that an amount of 135 pounds for each kilogram of olives, or 8 percent of the oil in kind, was set in the event that the owner of the mill transferred the olives from the house to the mill, the oil from the mill to the house, and the arjoum to the mill owner, in addition to specifying 115 pounds for each kilogram or 7 Percent of the oil in kind if the farmer transfers the olives to the mill, the oil from the mill to the house, and the arjoum to the mill owner.
The Tartous Agriculture Directorate had set the initial estimates of olive fruits for the current season at 50,458 tons.
