After the first attempt in early summer did not work out, the municipality of Seefeld is now organizing a street festival along Eichenallee next Sunday.

Seefeld - Normally around 13,000 cars, trucks and motorcycles drive along State Road 2068, better known as Eichenallee, every day. On the coming Sunday, October 3rd, not a single engine noise will be heard on the road between Seefeld and Weßling. There is a driving ban. Along the around 700 majestic trees, the community is holding a street festival with 36 different stations and activities. The motto: 250 years of Eichenallee. "The festival is just the occasion, the real star are the oaks," said Mayor Klaus Kögel in a press conference yesterday.

The 2.8 kilometer long avenue is one of the most beautiful in Europe.

Count Anton Clemens zu Toerring had them planted with 765 oaks in the late 18th century - along the path that connects Seefeld Castle with the former Hofmark Delling.

The fact that the natural monument still fascinates with its shine 250 years later is mainly due to its intensive care.

In 2007 the landscape architect Almuth Boedecker developed a care concept for the oaks.

This includes regular examinations, looking after old trees, replanting young oaks and removing dead branches that could pose a risk to road traffic.

"The maintenance of the avenue costs around 50,000 euros a year," said Boedecker.

"The state bears the costs, a municipality would be completely overwhelmed by that."

Oak trees can live for over 1000 years

Tree expert Andreas Detter has been checking the oaks for 25 years. “The avenue is very special,” he said. Although most of the trees are already 250 years old, Detter knows that this is not the end of it. “The upper age limit for oaks is open,” he said. "They can live to be over 1000 years old without any problems, as long as the care and the location are right."

Former Mayor Wolfram Gum is also proud of Seefeld's natural monument: “It's great that we have such a fascinating avenue in our community. Not everyone can show that. ”In 2011, the mayor at the time had already organized a large Eichenallee street festival, which will now be repeated next Sunday after ten years. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. all citizens are invited to stroll through the trees. Kögel expects 1500 visitors. In addition to stage appearances, tree climbing, face painting and food stalls, the artist Andreas Kloker is showing works in a hands-on campaign that he made from the wood of former oak trees. The festival takes place in all weathers. A mask is required.

Mayor Kögel is particularly pleased about the visit of Transport Minister Kerstin Schreyer.

He would like to take the opportunity to address topics such as the barrier-free train station and the Drößling through-traffic.

During the festival, a diversion leads from Herrsching via Auing, Wörthsee and Etterschlag to the A 96 and vice versa.
