To modernize the cultural industry, the state promises an envelope of 400 million euros

The executive includes this exceptional aid in a restructuring plan for the sector. The device will run until 2025.


The government will

"mobilize 400 million euros"

for the development of cultural industries, a sector hard hit by the health crisis and facing new uses, especially digital.

This envelope, under the fourth program of investments for the future (PIA4), will be put at the service of a

"national strategy for the acceleration of cultural and creative industries"

over the period 2021-2025, announced the Ministry of Culture. Tuesday September 28.

The aid will be intended for the sector as a whole, for

"the audiovisual industry, cinema, performing arts in all its disciplines, music in all its components, museums and heritage, visual arts, design, architecture, crafts, fashion, communication, video games, books and the press, ”the press

release said.

The ministry specifies that government action will be structured around

“five axes”

.

This will involve

"strengthening the solidity and competitiveness of companies"

(146 million allocated),

"accelerating digital transformation"

(150 million), supporting the development of the French cultural industry internationally (86 million), all taking into account the

“social and environmental” situation

(18 million).

Various channels, such as calls for tenders, competitions or the allocation of funds will allow the device to be deployed. Certain changes take effect immediately, such as the reinforcement of the Innovation Loan Fund for Cultural and Creative Industries to the tune of 25 million euros.

"By promoting the emergence of new cultural offers and new technological solutions, our objective is to transform the entire sector and create the cultural champions of tomorrow"

, declared Minister Roselyne Bachelot, quoted in the press release.

The cultural sector represents 2.3% of French GDP for a turnover of 91.4 billion euros and 640,000 direct jobs, recalls the ministry.

It was hit hard by the health crisis, which shut down entire sections of the sector, such as live shows and museums.
