Where the shocking massacre took place, a new museum commemorating the Holocaust was built: "The historical truth will float, they will be able to learn what happened there"

Today is the 80th anniversary of the massacre in the Valley of Killing in Avi Yar, Ukraine.

This is the largest massacre in two days carried out by the Nazis in Eastern Europe, in which some 34,000 Jews were murdered and thrown into the pit.

About 1.5 million Eastern European Jews were exterminated using this method during the Holocaust.

In addition to Jews, many others who were accused of disorderly conduct, including gypsies, Soviet POWs and other civilians, were murdered in this way.

Over the years, a number of question marks have arisen regarding the spread of information regarding the murder of the Jews.

This is regardless of the instruction given to the SS soldiers in July 1943 to conceal the evidence of the murder on the spot, as well as to the part of the Soviets and the Ukrainians in distorting the historical narrative associated with their part in the horror.

The Jews on their way to Babi Yar,

A Holocaust Remembrance Center is currently being established in Babi Yar, and its completion is expected in 2026.

"Babi Yar, who was a symbol of the injustices of the Holocaust and an attempt to erase the memory of the Holocaust, will become the largest Holocaust museum in Eastern Europe," said Natan Sharansky, a native of Ukraine, a former prisoner of Zion and former chairman of the Jewish Agency. "The advisory committee for the museum to be established there," naturally knew much less about the 'Holocaust of the Bullets' in relation to what happened in the extermination camps, also due to the USSR's attempt to erase the evidence, "Sharansky explained. Delete the memory - the icon for saving memory ".

The story will finally be presented

The director of the Wiesenthal Center in Jerusalem, Dr. Ephraim Zuroff, stated that "at first they were unwilling to point out that a large proportion of the victims were Jews, as well as the fact that there were Ukrainian collaborators who aided the Nazis. This is one of the prominent symbols "That the true story will finally be presented to the public, and people will be able to learn what really happened there, how this story was hidden, and the historical truth will float," he concluded.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the massacre, a new online display of Yad Vashem reveals the face behind the numbers.

The exhibition includes 80 photographs of Jews murdered in the Valley of Killing, which is silent evidence of the persecution of an entire Jewish community.

By clicking on each of the photographs, the names of the victims and information from the witness pages given in their memory are displayed.

Additional photographs are available in the online archive of Yad Vashem.
