5 Kindergarten bursts with upper respiratory tract infection, 98 schoolchildren are infected and one will be admitted to hospital

Among the 5 schools, Chongzhen Hui Meishan Kindergarten (Ma On Shan) involves the most children, with 21 students, including 9 boys and 12 girls. 15 of them have sought medical treatment. All are in stable condition and one person needs to be admitted to the hospital.

The school’s earliest date of onset was September 19, with cough, sore throat, runny nose and fever. The government included the school in a mandatory test notice on September 20.

There are also 14 boys and 6 girls in the Tsang Shiu Tim Kindergarten of Sheng Kung Hui St. Trinity Church in Kowloon City District, as well as a staff member who became ill. He developed cough and runny nose symptoms as early as September 27. The Department of Health issued a mandatory test announcement for the school the next day. All children are in stable condition and do not need to be admitted to the hospital.

The other three are Kwun Tong Anglican Church St. Barnabas’s Kindergarten, Whampoa Po Leung Kuk Tam Ouyang Siu Fong Memorial Kindergarten, and Lai Chi Kok Hong Kong Ling Liang Church Sau Tak Kindergarten (Second School), each with 19 students and one staff. Symptoms of cough, sore throat, runny nose, and fever.

The Centre for Health Protection stated that the relevant kindergarten is undergoing medical supervision and has suspended classes for at least five days as required for cleaning and enforcement of mandatory testing announcements.

The centre reminds that citizens, especially children, the elderly and chronically ill patients, should wear masks immediately and seek medical advice as soon as possible if they have symptoms of respiratory infections.
