The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, referred to the investigation known as the Pandora papers, carried out by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). The investigation exposes financial secrets of dozens of heads of state, public officials, businessmen and politicians in the world, including more than 3,000 Mexicans
. López Obrador assured that he knew about the investigation because his Secretary of Communications and Transportation, Jorge Arganis ---- mentioned in the report along with the former legal adviser to the presidency, Julio Scherer Ibarra, and other politicians and businessmen related to his government, as well as with previous administrations ---- informed him that the report would be published. The investigation published by El País says that Arganis and Scherer resorted to tax havens. Both told that newspaper that they acted appropriately and that the investigation refers to resources obtained in the private sector. The president asked that those involved be investigated. López Obrador also requested a response from Jorge Arganis that he read in his morning lecture. CNN has contacted both but has received no response.CNN does not know if the financial activities of Arganis and Scherer are legal. Having accounts in offshore or offshore banks is not necessarily illegal.
