Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet (CDU) wants to remain Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia until the constituent session of the Bundestag on October 26th.
With the acceptance of the Bundestag mandate, according to the NRW constitution, an “incompatibility” with the office of the state head of government occurs, said Laschet on Tuesday in Düsseldorf.
"From this second on, you can no longer be the country's prime minister."
Düsseldorf - Laschet had previously proposed Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst (46) as his successor.
Wüst is to be elected as the new Prime Minister in the NRW state parliament on October 27th.
Laschet wants Wüst to vote in the state parliament session.
According to the state constitution, it is possible to be a member of the Bundestag and the Landtag at the same time.
