The visitors to the Herbert Pixner Project concert in Geretsried knew what was in store for them: the whole musical diversity of the South Tyrolean Alps.

Of absolute delight.

Geretsried - Herbert Pixner promised his 900 guests “Best ofs” from the “Best ofs” of the previous “Best ofs” on Sunday evening in the cultural autumn tent.

And they knew what would happen to them.

Namely the whole musical variety of the South Tyrolean Alps.

A music with a vision from high above - or in other words: A music that is a great pleasure with so many instrumental facets and has an absolutely unique selling point.

"Best of" from 16 years of band history

“Where are you from?” People could be heard whispering softly with Austrian accents.

When the Herbert Pixner project occurs, the bush drum works and word gets around.

A "best of" from 16 years of band history is also too tempting.

In the first set until the break, it was the Pixner classics from the beginning that went really deep into the heart. At his concerts, Pixner always explains how and where his songs were created, mostly high up on the alpine pastures. In “Morgenrot” the South Tyrolean interprets the moment that is difficult to describe in words when the sun's rays crawl over the mountain peaks early in the morning and the blissful rest is still fresh as a dew.

The wiry musician and his band members always come on stage dressed in black.

They take a seat on chairs and do not need any decorative frills, no animations, no catchy chorus to sing along to in order to cast a spell over their audience.

This is pure music, made by a person who grew up on a mountain farm in the Passeier Valley.

So undisguised, so natural, but with the highest level of playing skill and with a deep feeling for all the nuances of the sound world.

Musical dialogue

Pixner's sister Heidi brings this spherical sound to the harp.

Werner Unterlercher plays the double bass, plucking as well as using the bow to underline the restrained rhythm.

Noble guitarist Manuel Randi allows Spanish guitar music to flow into South Tyrolean folk music and is in musical dialogue with Herbert Pixner.

And of course there is band founder Herbert Pixner himself. The multi-instrumentalist uses the ziach (Styrian harmonica), trumpet, horn, clarinet or saxophone, depending on the situation.

That's how the fans know the four musicians.

After the break, however, they got to know her differently.

Same style, heavier sound with increasingly strong rock and blues influences.

A new Pixner music that now continues from the gentle alpine meadows into the rugged, high-alpine terrain.

The fans were enthusiastic and at the end of the day they were followed by a big thank you in the form of great applause and standing ovations.
