"Lower Saxony and the climate would benefit a lot if we finally got ahead with renewable energies," said Weil in an interview with the "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung" on Wednesday.

Faster approval procedures are necessary for this.
"In the meantime, larger infrastructure projects, such as the construction of power lines, tracks or highways, have become generational projects," said Weil.
"Germany and specifically Lower Saxony can no longer afford that."
At the same time, Weil called for the previous EEG surcharge on the electricity price to be abolished quickly to promote new energies.
"Of all things, the energy source that is actually supposed to enable climate protection must not become more and more expensive."
