Consumer advocates want to pave the way to back interest payments for thousands of savers with old premium savings contracts on Wednesday (11.00 a.m.).
The consumer advice centers have launched several model declaratory actions for this.
The first of these is now being negotiated at the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe.
It remains to be seen whether a judgment will be announced immediately.
Karlsruhe - (Az. XI ZR 234/20)
The background to this is that, in the 1990s and 2000s, many savings banks in particular concluded long-term premium savings contracts that contained inadmissible clauses.
These clauses entitle the financial institutions to unilaterally largely freely adjust the interest rate.

From today's perspective, affected savers may have received too little interest.
The main question before the BGH is how much money they are entitled to, i.e. how the claims are to be calculated.
In the specific case, the consumer center Saxony is suing the Stadt- und Kreissparkasse Leipzig.
More than 1,300 victims have registered for this model lawsuit alone.
