The sugar beet harvest in southern Germany is good.
The sugar yield per hectare is currently around ten percent above the average of the past five years, said the managing director of the Association of South German Sugar Beet Growers, Fred Zeller, of the German Press Agency.
"The pretty good expectations are confirmed - but it is not the case that the trees grow into the sky."
Ochsenfurt - The beets could have dealt with the rain this year and are bigger than usual, explained Zeller.
The sugar content is a little lower, but the sunny September still helped here.
The bottom line is that this means an above-average sugar yield.
However, Zeller said that this year's sugar campaign would continue into January.
At the moment it looks pretty good.
"After three difficult years we are very satisfied and look to the future with optimism." Dpa
